Foodland Freeling (South Australia) – 5000m²

The new Foodland Freeling supermarket was constructed with long-term performance and low maintenance in mind — especially in the slab design. The project team required a reliable curing compound and permanent moisture barrier for the large internal floor area. DEEPCURE+REPELLER was applied directly to the freshly poured slab, delivering a compliant cure while locking moisture deep in the concrete and repelling future ingress.

The decision was driven by a need to protect against common retail slab issues like mould, musty odours, and floor-covering failures caused by rising moisture.

Challenge:

Supermarket floors often face serious performance issues if slabs aren’t properly cured or protected against moisture ingress:

  • Constant refrigeration units, air conditioning, and foot traffic create extreme internal environmental loads

  • Moisture ingress through untreated slabs can lead to mould growth, flooring delamination, and air quality issues

  • Many curing membranes require removal before floor coverings can be installed, which costs time and money

The project needed a one-application solution that would cure the slab to AS3799 standards, act as a permanent moisture barrier, and reduce long-term risk.

Solution:

DEEPCURE+REPELLER was applied immediately after the concrete pour to serve as both:

  • An AS3799-compliant curing agent that retains internal moisture to minimise cracking and support proper strength gain

  • A deep-penetrating moisture barrier that blocks surface moisture ingress and protects internal air quality long-term

Because DEEPCURE+REPELLER chemically bonds inside the concrete, there’s no need to grind or remove it prior to applying flooring finishes. It simplifies the build process and eliminates rework.

Outcome:

The application of DEEPCURE+REPELLER delivered a high-performance slab and a clean, efficient finish for the supermarket:
