How to Permanently Remove Concrete Rising Salts & Efflorescence – The DEEP CURE Process

If you’re dealing with white, powdery salt deposits on your concrete surfaces – known as efflorescence or ongoing moisture issues like salt damp, you’re not alone. These problems affect countless Australian homes and are more than just cosmetic.

 

The issue: Moisture moves through concrete and brings salts to the surface, where they crystallise. This leads to ugly staining, surface degradation, and even internal dampness.

Step-by-Step: The Deep Cure Process for Salt Removal

  1. Clean the Area
    Sweep and mop the concrete surface to remove dust and debris. Avoid using harsh chemicals or cleaners.
  2. Allow the Area to Dry
    Let the surface dry completely before applying any product.
  3. Test Surface Absorption
    Place a few drops of water on the concrete. If it absorbs quickly, the surface is ready for treatment.
  4. Apply DEEP CURE
    Spray a heavy coat of DEEP CURE directly onto the affected concrete.
    – The surface should stay wet and glossy for at least 10 minutes.
    – If the product soaks in too quickly, reapply as needed.
    – Mask or cover any nearby glass, metal, or paintwork to protect from overspray.
  5. Leave to React Overnight
    Allow the product to soak and react within the concrete overnight. Avoid disturbing the area.
  6. Check for Salt Residue
    The next morning, inspect the surface for white salt deposits that have been drawn out from within the concrete.
  7. Clean and Reapply if Needed
    Brush or vacuum the salts off the surface. If salt is still appearing, reapply DEEP CURE as before.
  8. Repeat Until No Salts Remain
    Repeat the clean and reapply steps until the surface no longer produces salts overnight. In most cases, two applications are enough.
  9. Final Coat: Apply DEEP CURE Repeller
    Once all salts have been removed, apply a final coat of DEEP CURE Repeller. This topcoat provides added water resistance and helps lock in the treatment, reducing future moisture ingress and ensuring long-term durability.
  10. Suitable Applications
    This process is ideal for any external concrete surface where moisture or salt staining is a problem, including:
    – Driveways
    – Garage floors
    – Pathways
    – Slab edges
    – Retaining walls
    – Outdoor patios
